After slavery ended, many African Americans continued to work on the plantations and purchased land close by. Snowden has long-standing ties to Long Point Baptist Church. The area is dominated by old-growth pine and oak trees and historic homes erected as early as the 1930s, brick homes built around the 1970s and manufactured housing, all on sprawling lots.
